Write the measurement requirement before selecting a sensor

A sensor catalog describes hardware; a procurement brief should describe the decision its data must support. The distinction prevents purchasing a technically impressive but unsuitable device.

The purchasing decision

State whether the task needs qualitative imagery, calibrated temperatures, geometry or position. Define the output format and acceptance owner. Request representative data early so the processing team can reject workflow mismatches before integration effort grows.

Keep these records

  1. Measurement outcome.
  2. Data and metadata requirements.
  3. Acceptance dataset and reviewer.

Give each record an owner and a revision or date. If a supplier proposes a different part or test condition, record it as an exception for review before treating the quotation as equivalent.

Turn the review into a sourcing request

Start with the linked component checklist, add the actual platform and part identity, and state quantity, destination and timing. List unresolved requirements explicitly so the first discussion can focus on those gaps.
